"Mr. and Mrs. A.L. McDonald, Superior Avenue, are today celebrating
their 64th wedding anniversary at a quiet family reunion.
Albert F. McDonald, Harold S. McDonald, Mrs. L.J. Earle and Mrs. John J.
Powell and families, six grandchildren and
one great-grandchild from the nearby vicinity will be present.
Married in Pittsburgh in 1875, the couple has lived in Allegheny county,
for three years, Beaver Falls 25 years and in Aliquippa to the present day.
The man for whom McDonald Heights was names, Mr. McDonald was born on the
site of the first P.M. store, near the present Woodlawn Land company. He
worked as a farmer boy in Aliguippa until he was 17, when he "went
on the 'river' from Pittsburgh to New Orleans with his cousin, John Douds.
He was engaged in the painting business until his return to Aliquippa in
1909, when he became interested in real estate. The number of homes Mr.
McDonald has built on the Heights now totals fifty-seven.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Pittsburgh, 1852.
Prize possessions of the McDonalds are two rusted cow bells more than 100
years old, an old-time shell shot across the Ohio river when the government
was testing cannons in 1862, a French poodle, Billie, now 20 years old,
and a three-year-old parrot, Tommy, which actually talks.
