One of the most famous starfighters in the galaxy, Luke Skywalker piloted an X-wing when he destroyed the Death Star. These ships form the backbone of the New Republic starfighter fleet.
The Y-wing was adopted at the inception of the Rebel Alliance, and due to its versatility remains popular despite its old, almost outdated design. The ships are appreciated because parts for them are much more readily available than limited run ships, such as A- and B- wing starfighters.
Rebel space-combat success took a dramatic turn upward with the introduction of the A-wing starfighter. Its low body mass and high-thrust twin engines give it the highest sublight velocity of any Rebel fighter, a speed that may be matched only by the Imperial TIE Interceptor.
The B-wing is the newest and most heavily-armed starfighter in the Rebel arsenal, providing the small Rebel fleet with much-needed escort firepower. It is unlike any other fighter craft due to its swing-wing configuration, which creates a minimal sensor reflection on the scopes of any enemy vessel it may encounter.
The snowspeeder is one of the many common airspeeders used by the Rebel forces. This enclosed repulsorcraft carries a heavy load of weaponry and a crew of two, and was converted to accomadate the colder climates of planets such as Hoth.
The Corellian Corvette is one of the most versatile spacecraft in use today, covering a wide range of uses from troop transport to cargo ship to passenger carrier. Unlike most vessels, which are highly specialized in function, the corvette is so easily converted to varying tasks that it is found throughout the galaxy.
During the war between The Alliance and The Empire Frigates were widly used both by the Empire and The Alliance. Since the Alliance had a high priority for the life of thier pilots and crews, they converted the Frigates into hospital ships that would go into battle with the fleet. Unlike The Alliance The Empire had a low priority on life so they only used Frigates for battles only.
It was not until the entry of the Mon Calamari (Mon Cal) into the Rebellion that the Rebel forces gained capital starships with which to combat the Star Destroyers of the Empire. The huge battle cruisers of the Mon Cal are modified versions of the deep-space exploration vessels their builders have for decades used to increase their understanding of the universe around them.
The R2 units were esntional to the Alliance since most of the ships
used needed an astromech droid. Only one R2 unit became famous during
the war and that R2 unit was owned by Luke Skywalker His R2 unit helped
Destroy the first Death Star And saved his life a number of times.

The prime Imperial starfighter at the height of the Empire's power,
TIE's (Twin-Ion Engine starfigthters) are designed to be fast, but they
accomplish this through being fragile. Prior to its defeat, the Empire
never gave a second thought to sacrificing scores of these ships to
accomplish goals--there were thousands more just like them.
The TIE/ln can be found stationed at Imperial outposts of all kinds
throughout the Known Galaxy and is the most visible symbol of Imperial
power. THE TIE INTERCEPTER IS AN UPGRADED VERSION OF THE TIE FIGHTER. IT HAS 2 MORE LASER CANNONS AND
IS SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN THE TIE FIGHTER. THE TIE INTERCEPTER PROTOTYPE FIRST USED AT THE BATTLE
OF YAVIAN WERE THE REBELS DESTROYED THE FIRST DEATHSTAR AND WAS POLITED BY LORD VADER. ALTHOUGH
THE INTERCEPTER IS AN UPGRADE IT STILL DOES NOT HAVE SHIELDS OR AN EJECTION SYSTEM. The TIE Bomber is a standered Imperial Starfighter used for Persion
assaults on capital ships and on planets.
The TIE Advanced is the next step up from the the TIE Intercepter. This
Fighter Is Superior to Most Rebel Ships and was only put into action by the
Empire by the end of the war.
The TIE Defender is the the most powerful starfighter in use by the Empire
this fighter can disable, out gun, and out manuver all starfighters. This
starfighter had a short life it was barely making it to the front lines
when The Empire fell Based loosely upon the tri-wing symmetry of Incom's T-16 skyhopper, the
standard Imperial shuttle has become a mainstay of Imperial governmental
transportation. The vessel's unusually strong defensive shielding made
it a favorite of Palpatine's, who usually traveled alone in a
luxuriously-appointed private shuttle dedicated to his use only. In designing its primary ground assault vehicles, the Empire knew that
fear and superstition would play a big part in destroying the morale of
those who might oppose its ground forces. To this end, Palpatine
approved a series of vehicles that resembled, more than anything else,
massive beasts that dwarfed any repulsor lifts or crawlers in use by the
worlds of the Old Republic. Awesome when on the move, shaking the ground
with each step, these walkers instilled fear into even the most hardened
enemy troops. The All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) is a smaller, faster variant of
walker design. These scout walkers are utilized primarily for
reconnaissance, although they are being used in growing numbers as direct
reinforcements for front-line, on-foot battle assaults.

Even with his enormous Imperial space fleet in place. Palpatine felt
that there was a certain lack of "respect" (and fear) for his rule among
the worlds of the former Republic. Wanting to remedy the situation, he
called upon the brightest of his spacecraft designers and demanded a
vessel more magnificent and more powerful than any that had ever been in
space before. His single demand was that the new battle fortress have
the ability to destroy an entire planet with one quick, massive stroke,
against which there could be no planetary defense.
