Personal Info:

I've been into Volkswagens since I was old enough to drive. My parents had an orange '73 bus with a cool mural airbrushed on one side and a '72 Beetle that I took my driver's test in. My first one was a '70 autostick beetle that did great parking lot 'donuts' in the snow. After three other beetles (another '70, a '74, and a '66) I bought a '71 Westfalia. We took that camper on some great trips, including Nova Scotia in the early '90s. I replaced it with our current '81 camper in the mid-90's. I have also owned an '87 Syncro Vanagon and am now enjoying a backyard restoration of a '65 double-door walk-thru panel van.
My involvement with LiMBO started when I met the founder, Zach Woods, promoting the club at a VW event in 1989. Since then I have served as newsletter editor, membership coordinator, newsletter ad rep. and president. I also am the promoter of the Transporterfest/VW Day event in Brookline, MA at the end of September. After all these years I still really enjoy LiMBO and the great people that come out for the camping, cruising, and various car shows. I was even able to use my LiMBO newsletter and Volkswagen experience to turn a hobby into a full time job. I am currently an editor of VW and Audi service manuals for Bentley Publishers in Cambridge, MA. I do get out to a few big VW shows every summer all over the country so be sure to say "Hi" if you see me representing Bentley books at a show.

I've been a member of LiMBO since before it was LiMBO. I first met LiMBO founder Zach Woods in 1988 when I was driving my 66 Camper and he was showing up at NEATO events talking about starting a club for 68 and newer VW buses.
Since Zachs' departure from running the club in 93, I've worn several hats in the club including, editor of 'The Transporter', LiMBO's offical newsletter, promotions and Treasurer. I'm also on the board of directors and I currently help keep the LiMBO web pages up and running. . I used host a LiMBO sponsored campout known as "Transporters By The Tunnel". I've been into VW's most of my adult life starting with a 71 Superbeetle in College and working my way into a 66 Camper which is when I fell in love with the VW bus and its lifestyle. I personally would love to own and drive an aircooled bus everyday, but my lovely wife, Barbra, need more 'creature comforts' like heat.  My wife Barbra and I are also members of several VW clubs here in the Northeast, The HAMS club (New York based), New Hampshire VW club, Vacationland VW assoc. (Maine) and the CVA (Connecitcut).

This is our 1987 Vanagon Westfalia, Wolfsburg Edition, acquired as second owners in 1991. She is quite a distinctive bus because of the unique color "Titian Red", used only on '87 and '88 models. She is not only a dependable working camping vehicle but is also a show car having won numerous awards over the last several years. As for myself, I am a retired Aerospace Engineer and together with my wife Sue, not only share interests in our Westy but in her companion lightweight fiberglass trailer, Westfalia II. Our other interests include family geneology research, railroads and trains of all sizes and types and of course our 5 grandchildren.

I have been a card carrying member of LiMBO, since 1990. I appointed myself a local LiMBO rep years ago and kept signing up new members, finally Dale (former El Presidente) called me up asked If I wanted to be a real rep.(I did) I've had VWs for the past forty years. First new car: '66 sunroof bug, the rest, as they say is history. After twenty five years in the photo/graphic arts industry, I am now trying to sell parts to gullible bus owners ('56-'79). I have a "virtual" wrecking yard that sells real parts mail order nation wide and will call in the Greater Seattle area. I call it: The Bus Company. My goal: Have fun and keep these old buses on the road.

This is my 1984 Westy. I had it for about 8 years now. I love it. I started going to the VW gatherings about 3 years ago and had a ball. My Westy is the best escape mechanism for a single guy. I keep it packed and ready to go in the camping seasons. Weekend comes and if I feel like it. I'm gone! My daughter (a teenager now) loves to come along when she can.

Personal Info:

My first encounter with a VW was in 1966 when a cousin came home on leave from Vietnam with a new red Beetle. That was the bonding to a VW. Different in every way but very unique.
During the late 1960's and early 1970's had many old Beetles which were driven and abused in every way, driving them thru the woods and wherever. My real first VW on the road was 1965 Beetle without an operating starter.  I would coast down the driveway in the morning to jump-start it and would idle the rest of the day and of course I would occasionally have someone give me a push. In 1974 purchased a 1972 Beetle that I drove only until 1975 when a new LaGrand Super Beetle entered my life.

Not the car I thought it would be so in 1976 traded and bought a new Rabbit. Rubber floor mats everywhere and a two-speed heater fan that was to slow or to darn fast. For the next five years, this was the best and worst I car I have ever owned. Four clutches and a carburetor that would flood out in a wink of the eye. Besides all the grief and aggravation, this is the car that I wish I could still own today. The final VW in my life in 1981 was Scirocco "S", Mars Red with a five speed. The car, which I never appreciated for some unknown reason, guess I never, gave the car a chance
For the next fifteen or so years I went the American truck route with a boat in tow. Finally in 1989 switched to yes Toyotas which I still driving today as my everyday vehicle.
Always wanted another Beetle until I had the chance to drive Vanagon Westfalia and that just did it to me. Upon much searching found a 1983 one owner Vanagon Westfalia in 1998 which wasn't for sale but after much talking the owner agreed to sell her to me knowing that she would be cared for. At this time she sits in a heated garage driving her tops of 3500 miles a year. The view out of a Vanagon windshield is like having the whole world in front of you.
"Kid nobody, a Westfalia most definitely has a sole with feelings."
Beyond enjoying my VW, I enjoy traveling, camping, geocaching and photography. I am also a member of the NHVWC and BSVWOC.
"Sit up high or low, but do enjoy your VW's."
