SOMETHING NEW & DIFFERENT WILL TAKE PLACE IN 2004
A new LiMBO camping event will take place July 16-18th at the Bald Mountain Campground on the West River in Townshend, Vermont. The theme for this event will be: "Do your own thing in your own Westy" You can visit local Flea Markets, Antique Shops, Factory Outlets, Auctions, visit covered bridges or tour country roads where no Westy may have ever been before. There is also swimming, boating & fishing at the nearby Townshend Dam Recreation Area; hiking trails to Bald Mountain at the Townshend State Forest Park; tubing on the West River, go biking on miles of dirt roads or just lounge and relax at the campground. A booklet will be available listing attractions, places to go and things to do in the Townshend - Newfane Village area as well as the surounding southern Vermont area. The usual LiMBO Get-together is planned for Saturday night where you can share your days experiences with your fellow Westfalians.   A special rate of just under $21.00 has been arranged for this event which includes water, electricity and the Vermont tax. Bald Mountain can be reached in 2 hours from the Boston, Hartford and Albany areas. So come join us at this new and unique camping experience next July. THE WEST RIVER CARAVAN

On Saturday, July 17th at West River Westies there will be a guided caravan thru south eastern Vermont lead by John Hamil, owner of John’s Car Corner in Westminister, VT. Leaving from Bald Mountain Campground and following State Forest Road north to the Townsend Dam with a possible stop on the dam’s crest for a photo shoot. It will proceed south on Route 30 thru Townsend, Newfane and Dummerston, crossing the West River thru the Dummerston Covered Bridge (longest in Vermont at 240 ft.) and on to Black Mountain Road over to Route 5.
A stop will be made at Basketville in Putney before going on to Westminister for a tour of John Hamil’s John’s Car Corner. From there a short distance up to Bellows Falls and then west on Route 127 to Grafton and a stop at the famous Grafton Village Cheese Factory before returning to the campground. John Hamil, a LiMBO member and area representative is the owner of John’s Car Corner, a specialty VW repair shop that has many unusual VW items, some dating back to the 1930’s. The shop also has hundreds of new and used VW parts. He is a long time resident of the area, knowing the southern Vermont area well and may have other interesting stops planned as well for this exciting caravan.
UPDATE as of July 1

We just returned from a weekend of camping at the Bald Mountain Campground and a visit to the New Hampshire VW Show in Hopkinton, NH. The weather for both was better than perfect. Here is a rundown on what will be taking place at West River Westies in two weeks from tomorrow. John Hamel of John's Car Corner will have an open house at his VW shop in Westminister, VT. from 9 to 1pm on Saturday. Here you can tour his shop, check his ample supply of new and used parts for your bus and view his fabulous collection of VW memorabilia. In the afternoon, John is planning a caravan tour of the local area starting at about 2pm and will return to the campground in ample time to get ready for the Potluck supper in the pavillion. Sign up sheets for both will be available when you check in. After supper Jon Hathaway will conduct a superduper raffle with many neat items to be raffled off. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. In the evening a campfire will be at the large firering just north of the pavillion On Sunday morning Jon will put on the famous Burrito Breakfast.
There will be a very nominal charge for this and be sure to bring your favorite additive such as onions, peppers, sausage and salsa. We have received permission from the Corps of Engineers who supervise the Townshend Lake Dam and Recreation Area for a photo shoot of all buses lined up on the crest of the Dam. A good volunteer photographer will be needed for this. A note of caution in that the West River adjacent to the Campground, though shallow, has a very rocky bottom. Swimming or wading are at your own risk and children should be watched and under adult supervision. Use of the playground facilities are also at your own risk. If you use the Townshend Lake Recreation facilities be advised that there are no pets allowed in any areas, however your pets are welcome at the campground but must be restrained at all times and not left unattended After you check in at the Campground Office, stop in at the pavillion porch to say hello and pick your site. We'll see you there.
