KIT: Gunze Sangyo 1956 Volkswagen Oval Window

The first of 3 Beetles in my life, this one was my transportation during my Army stint in Germany. The 1956 Volkswagen represented by the kit is identical to the 1953 body when the single oval rear window was first introduced. The only body modifications required were the various dents and wrinkles implanted by rolling the vehicle three times. These were modeled from using a scribing tool and hobby knife and various other plastic threatening objects laying around. The running board chrome strip was made using .010" plastic sheet and covered with Bare Metal Foil.

Model Master Blue Angel Blue was lightened with white and covered with flat clear spray to simulate the extremely faded paint. Chrome trim was covered with Bare Metal Foil. All chromed parts were covered with flat clear paint to reduce the shine. Various rust shades were dry-brushed on the body and chrome at the appropriate places.

The chassis was covered with Polly S Grimy Black and textured by dabbing the paint with the brush when wet. This leaves a rough texture in the paint simulating a rough undercoating. The underside was detailed with gloss black, aluminum, steel and rust. The tires were painted with flat clear to age them a bit.
