Cars I Have Owned

1990 Subaru Legacy L Wagon

90 Legacy

KIT:  Hasegawa  1991 Subaru Legacy GT Touring Wagon

This was actually my wife's car, but who's counting. The only model available of this vehicle was of a Touring Wagon available only in Japan. Unfortunately, it had a raised roof and various flares, hood scoops and a modified front end. The roof ended up as a fairly easy fix...I cut around 3 sides, pivoted it down and molded it in. Most of the add-on areo devices just filed off. The front end took a bit more reshaping with putty.

The paint caused the most stressful episodes of this journey. This was amplified by the $30 price of this kit. First up was a spray can disaster with a paint that was close, but not close enough. It required a full paint removal where I found the time limits for the stripper I used resulting in a gentle melting of the body. After a new kit and more bodywork, I used real Subaru touch-up paint in the spray gun. After some rubbing out, it ended up as the best paint job of my modeling career. All's well that ends well.

A few little details, like the ever present over-due video tape riding in my wife's car, and this was a done deal. A simple curbside model, but one of the best looking in my stable.
