Mike's
Model Madness!
Un-Completed...
Since I have boxes and boxes of models that may never see the light
of these pages,
I had to give those gems a place of their own to shine.
1959 Chevy Impala...don't ask which
version..
This replication of my 2nd car has been a job
with great beginnings...and many of them!
It started with a Monogram '59 Impala Convertible
for which I acquired a resin body of the hardtop model. This required considerable
tweaking of the front hood inlets to account for the apparent shrinkage
in the resin. After many applications of putty, the decision was made to
cut the resin top off and splice it to the more accurate convertible body.
This version reached the point of the application of the white paint when
Monogram finally released the '59 Impala HARDTOP! Now all work stopped
as this dilemma was pondered. It was finally decided that the Monogram
hardtop would result in a more accurate result and damned be the bodies
littering the workbench! The interior and chassis were rushed to completion
and some accurate '59 Chevy White paint acquired and applied. The doldrums
set in once again during the rubbing out process...as now it stands.
UPDATE: July 2000
- Body is finally rubbed out and in the Chrome Foil process...they SURE
used alot of chrome in the '50's!!

of the three bodies....resin on top, converted convertible in the middle
and final hardtop at the bottom.
This is a shot of the completed interior
and frame.
1949 Mercury
This car has been lurking in my basement for
years! It just never seems to get anywhere as the design scheme changes
with the seasons. The top has been chopped and the grill opening made symmetrical
by molding the top with sculpting clay and casting it in epoxy. The casting
defect on the upper edge of the trunk were corrected with putty and the
headlights are in the process of being "frenched". I'm still looking for
the "right" grill and rear taillights....HAS to be a classic crusier.
