A Open Letter to the CommunityDear Friend: The Northern Berkshire YMCA is a vital institution for the children, teens, families and adults of the Northern Berkshire Region. For the past 112 years, the YMCA has provided quality programs, services and activities to thousands of children and adults from its main facility, day camp and outreach locations. Historically, the YMCA has been known for youth development, child care, family values, health and fitness, and a great deal more. The Northern Berkshire YMCA is truly an "institution for good" in our community. In recent years, the YMCA has experienced difficulties in maintaining its facilities and membership / participant base because of the effects of the 1989 - 1991 recession. Although vital services have not been interrupted, due to the impact of the last recession, the Northern Berkshire YMCA has been unable to effectively rebound. However, plans are in place not only to fiscally strengthen the YMCA, but also to upgrade the existing 28 year old facility, purchase new equipment and broaden programs. The ultimate beneficiaries of this long overdue improvement program will be the children and families of the region. In order to accomplish this objective, a rapid infusion of $750,000 is required. As the 20th Century draws to a close, the Northern Berkshire YMCA prepares for a new chapter in its history. The slogan for the YMCA's fund drive is "Securing the Future for the Northern Berkshire Community." It is more than a slogan. It is a challenge and rendezvous with destiny. The Northern Berkshire YMCA is fully committed to building Strong Kids, Strong Families and Strong Communities. Please consider the vital role the YMCA plays in our lives, the lives of our children and the community. Thank you. Very truly, Dennis D'Arcangelo Corydon Thurston General Co-Chairs |
