NBCTC offers free workshops series in studio, control room and editing operations.

In his five volume masterpiece, The Once and Future King, E. B. White has Merlin tell the future King Arthur, “The best thing for being sad is to learn something.”  Words of great wisdom, and great truth.  Well, even if you’re not sad, you should enroll in one of our workshops.  They are generally held on Fridays now, in the evening, and last up to two hours. Individuals can be tutored privately, but you’re much better off studying in a group, especially in the Control Room.  There’s a lot to learn, and you’ll have a lot of fun learning it.  And when the workshop series is over, you can join the ranks of our other volunteers, and have even more fun working on real TV shows!

What’s a series?  A Studio series is a set of four workshops covering everything dealing with working in the Studio itself:   Camera Operation, Floor Managing, Set Design, and Hosting.  The Control Room series is a set of six workshops, dealing with everything in the Control Room:   Audio Mixer, Character Generator, Video Switcher, Time Keeping, and Directing.  We also provide training in Camcorder Operation and Editing, and can help develop ideas for both regular and special (such as documentaries) programming.

Complete a workshop series, and we throw a graduation party for you, complete with diplomas and (brace yourself!)..................PIZZA!  Yes, real, live........well, real pizza, anyway!  And before the tomato stains have hardened on your diploma, your name will be added to the list of volunteers we suggest our producers use.

Just before this article was published, we graduated two groups from the Studio workshop series, and were looking at starting two Control Room series.   Good directors are few and far between, but our workshops produced three of them in the past year.  You, too, can be part of this growing team.  Give us a call, at 663-9006, and we’ll get you started; get a few friends to come in with you.  Sign up with us, and we’ll show you a really good time.
