NBUW is a source of three types of funding for not-for-profits offering Northern Berkshires programs:
Annual Allocations --Agencies that are members of NBUW are eligible to apply each February for program funding derived from NBUW's regular, local fall-winter fund drive. Community volunteers organized by the United Way evaluate all applicant programs, and final "allocation" decisions are announced in May, and funds are disbursed monthly July through the following June. This web site includes the current "Allocation Request" form.
One-time Grants --NBUW also offers small (avg. $500 to $1,000) one-time grants for worthy causes and priority needs in the area. As with annual allocations, the one-time grants are decided by volunteers supported by NBUW staff. The application form for these grants in included in this site.
Grant Writing Assistance --Member agencies, and occasionally non-members can receive assistance from NBUW in identifying sources of "outside" grant funding and making applications. This was the way $3 million of U.S. and Massachusetts Depts. of Education funding was secured in 2001 and 2002 to establish after-school programs in North Adams and Adams (21 st Century Learning Centers). Any community advancement program that might be interested in NBUW grant writing help should see the services menu on this web site.
